Foodie Friday: Tanya's Soup Kitchen - Wichita, KS

For this Foodie Friday I headed to Wichita with a group of foodies y'all haven't seen

since the first Foodie Friday where we reviewed Farley’s Bar & Grill in Lindsborg.

This week we put Tanya's Soup Kitchen, a restaurant none of us had heard of or

been to before, on the spot. Did their locally sourced natural food make it a must

stop location? Scroll on down to find out!

.

We strolled in through the heavy side door of the restaurant and planted

ourselves right in front of the large framed menu listing all their food options.

.

.

I stood in front of the menu debating waaay too long, but eventually we were all

ready to place our food orders so we hopped in line and gave our orders to the

extremely nice and friendly employee at the register.

.

With orders in we headed to their beautiful outdoor seating area since none of the

tables on the inside could fit our group of 5 at the moment, and waited for our

food to come out to us…which took FOREVER. We waited so long for our food

we started to crack jokes saying things like "do they have to grow all the

ingredients first?" I mean y'all….how long does it take to make a sandwich? Lol I didn't think

they were THAT busy for it to take THAT long. However, eventually our food arrived.

.

Even though it had been a minute since this crew went with me on a Foodie

Friday date, they all remembered to try and order different foods so we

could try multiple things off the menu.

.

Chance got the Chef's Club sandwich with a side of pasta salad

Tyler got the Grampa Rubie sandwich with a side of pasta salad

So what were the crew's thoughts?

.

Tyler enjoyed his reuben saying it was good and both him

and Chance gave it a 7/10 rating. However, in the end Tyler wasn't

all that impressed saying the restaurant was meh and gave it an overall rating of 5/10.

.

Chance gave his chef's club a 6/10 rating and the restaurant itself

an overall 6/10 rating as well saying he was disappointed he had to

drive an hour for it cause to him it wasn't worth that.

.

Brittany really liked her croquadille sandwich (and so did her son Easton) although

she did say the chowder was kind of an acquired taste. You go into it expecting

a typical shrimp chowder, but the chipotle seasoning makes it taste more

taco-y and like cajun food. She ended up giving her meal a 7/10 and

the restaurant an overall rating of 5/10 saying it simply wasn't her kind of food place.

.

Easton absolutely hated the blue key north, especially after finding out there

were blueberries on it, which, I mean, I don't blame him. I wouldn't like that either.

However, Brittany liked it saying it paired well with the turkey on the sandwich she just could

have done without the blueberry chunks in the BBQ

sauce so in the end the sandwich received a 6/10. The potato salad

was good though. Easton was very adamant that the restaurant

receive a 0/10 rating though. Poor kid. lol

.

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen Stats:

Service: 6/10

Food: 6/10

Cleanliness/Decor: 10/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 7.3/10

.

While the person working the counter and our waitress were nice, the length of time

we had to wait for our food was kind of crazy and so my service rating did have to drop

for that. I love that their food is natural and locally sourced. However, their sandwich combinations

really didn’t work for this picky eater as I struggled to find something that I actually thought

sounded good (and Easton definitely was NOT a fan of really anything we had so also might not

be the best place to bring your kids). I am glad I went with the shepherd's pie though because

I honestly think it was the best thing out of everything we ordered that night. I was pretty impressed

for it being my first time trying shepherd's pie. The peanut butter cookie was also a solid choice

missing only a nice cold glass of milk and the pasta salad, well, tasted like any other pasta salad

out there. I was pretty disappointed in the peach tea though because I couldn't taste any peach

in it at all. I did like their decor inside the restaurant and their outside seating area was gorgeous.

In the end though I think we all agreed that this is not a place we want to drive an hour for again

or one that we would go out of our way to eat at and we will be saving

it for the hipsters and health nuts.
