Foodie Friday: Dutch Kitchen - Hutchinson, KS

The OG Foodie Friday group was back at it again and this time we brought with

us a few Foodie Friday newbies to review a place highly recommended to me

by my dad, Dutch Kitchen in Hutchinson, KS. My dad talked this place up

pretty good so I had some high expectations going in especially for their

pie which dad said is some of the best pie you will ever find. Scroll on down

to see what this big group of foodies thought!

Our big group of 8 followed the hostess through the restaurant to the

back room and were seated at a nice long table big enough to accommodate

us all. She handed us each a menu and then a waitress appeared at our table

to collect our drink orders allowing us time after that to peruse the multiple page menu.

.

.

We decided to start off with some appetizers and ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Curds

.

.

And the deep fried okra.

.

.

As you saw from the menu pictures above there is quite a lot to choose

from, but my OG Foodie Friday peeps made sure that everyone chose

something different (aren't they the best?!) so we had a pretty good sampling of the menu.

.

To start off the main dishes we have Rhett’s order of roast beef

with sides of corn and potato salad.

.

.

Mike ordered the hot roast beef sandwich.

.

.

Alex decided to branch out a little and try the Monterey Chicken

sandwich with a side of potato salad.

.

Caitlin ordered the chicken tenders with sides of corn and mashed potatoes.

.

Chance decided to steal my order and went with the chicken fried steak and

all the carbs with sides of mashed potatoes AND french fries.

(No judgment Chance….potatoes in any form is always the right thing to order. lol)

.

.

Brittany ordered a true American meal of steak, mashed potatoes, and corn.

.

.

Tyler ordered the Dutch Burger with a side of fries.

And finally I ordered the ham sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy.

.

.

We also got a nice basket of complimentary rolls to share!

Once we finished with our dinners it was time for the part I was

most excited about….PIE TIME BABY!

.

Almost all of us got a slice of some type of pie including chocolate cream

Peanut Butter

After the pie it was time for us to head out and I collected everyone’s

reviews. Here is what the group had to say:

.

Rhett 7/10

.

Unfortunately Rhett said his roast beef was dry even with the

gravy on the top, but luckily everything else he had was good. Both

he and Mike also agreed the consistency of the potato salad was weird

and the potatoes were very similar to hashbrowns, but he said the flavor was still good.

.

Mike 6.5/10

.

Mike ordered a HOT roast beef sandwich, but sadly he said the gravy

smothering his sandwich was a little on the cold side. It was almost as if they

had made the gravy first and then the rest of the food and when it came time to put

the gravy on top of the food it was already cold. He also wasn’t a huge

fan of how soggy the bread was (however, that was kind of to be expected with the gravy), BUT

the potatoes themselves received a higher rating of 7.5/10. Overall

he said it was good, but would have been better if the gravy was warm.

.

Alex 8/10

.

As I mentioned above, Alex decided to take a break from her usual order of chicken

strips and ordered the Monterey Chicken sandwich. She said that the

sandwich was good aside from the fact that her chicken was really dry.

.

Caitlin 7/10

.

Overall Caitlin said her food was good and the chicken tenders

were tender. Lol She also said the pie was amazing (she tried the banana)

giving it its own rating of 9/10.

.

Brittany 7/10

.

For Brittany she said the steak was cooked to her liking, but it was

not the best steak she has had. However, the mashed potatoes

were bomb and the pie was FANTASTIC! (She had the banana pie.)

.

Tyler 1/10

.

Unfortunately Tyler had the worst dining experience of the group saying

he didn’t like his burger at all because the bacon was burnt and the

burger itself was dry. Sadly the fries couldn’t even save the day

and received a just “okay” rating as well.

.

Chance 5/10

.

Chance agreed with Tyler that the fries (and his mashed potatoes) were just

okay saying they were bland and unseasoned. He also agreed with Mike saying that

his gravy was also cold and said the chicken fried steak was decent, but it

seemed like it was one of those pre-packaged frozen chicken fried steaks.

.

The boys wanted to rate the pies themselves separately and ended up

giving each slice a collective 8.5/10 rating saying they were amazing.

.

.

Dutch Kitchen Stats:

Service: 8/10

Food: 6/10

Cleanliness/Decor: 8/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 7.3/10

.

Having a big group to waitress is always a little more on the stressful side, but I think

our waitress did a pretty good job with us. A lot of us were feeling indecisive that

night, but she remained patient and did a good job making sure we had everything

we needed for the most part. She even asked if I wanted some extra toppings for my sandwich

and brought them out without a moment's hesitation. The restaurant itself felt

like we had stepped inside of a grandma's house with the cutesy

quote signs on the wall (which you can actually purchase), wooden tables, and

carpet, but I thought that fit the vibes well. I personally thought my food was really

good. Unlike Tyler's bacon mine was crispy and perfect for my sandwich and I

agree with Brittany that the mashed potatoes were good (maybe not bomb but definitely good).

I will admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor of the gravy on my

mashed potatoes and it also was a little on the cold side. The

pie was the real star of this meal. I tried the chocolate peanut butter pie and I gotta

say...dad wasn't lying when he said it was some of the best pie you will have. It

was pretty dang good and the ultimate savior for everyone that night.
