Foodie Friday: Speakeasy - Salina, KS

This bar has always caught my attention with its old school name and cool looking

exterior and I was pretty excited to return all these years later to give this place an

official review. And to get to do it with Danny! Scroll on down to read about our experience!

Danny and I walked in through the swinging double doors and were both surprised to see the place so

hopping on a Tuesday night. I let Danny pick where we were going to sit and he decided

tonight we were going to belly up to the bar. I grabbed a couple menus off an empty

nearby table and we got to looking at food options.

.

There were so many things on the menu that sounded good, but eventually

we landed on an order of the loaded buffalo chicken sweet fries for an appetizer.

.

And then Danny ordered the Whiskey Creek burger with skinny fries

.

.

and I ordered The Hangover burger with mac and cheese.

Danny's Review:

.

"Okay I'm going to give you a break down of the overall of everything. The bar in general

was probably a 4/5. I liked the double swinging doors, they looked pretty cool. The

chairs were comfortable. Customer service was like a 2/5. Took a long time for

anyone to even take our order and they thought we were only going to eat an

appetizer. Food was like 2.5/5. It was pretty mediocre. Wasn't bad, but wasn't

anything luxurious. Although the skinny fries themselves were like 4/5 cause

they seasoned the shit out of them. Waiting on your food was like a 1/5 cause it

took like an hour to get. Long Island Ice Tea was 3/5. I've had better at

Applebee's and that's not a good thing."

Well...this was disappointing. It has been a few years since I had strode in through the doors

to Speakeasy, but I certainly don't remember having an experience as low ranking as this

one. While the vibe of the place with its cool doors and low lighting definitely

encapsulates the speakeasy theme it was about the only thing that this place

did right. (Although I did have to lower the rating a little bit due to the ants I found

crawling on the bar over my food and napkins.) After we arrived we sat at the bar

for at least 10 minutes before anyone even came to get our drink orders and it

was like pulling teeth to get one of the multiple bartenders to come back to not

just get a refill, but also order food. Then when we did order our appetizer the

bartender walked off before we could even finish our order and it was at least

another 30 minutes before we could get one of them back to order our main course

meals. And then it still took well over an hour for any of the food we ordered to show

up which unfortunately was not worth the wait. The Buffalo chicken fries were good, and

my mac and cheese was pretty solid albeit very spicy, but my burger was one of the most flavorless

burgers I have ever had which I was pretty impressed by given

the amount of toppings on it including bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. Honestly, this

probably isn't a place I would return on my own accord and I expected better.
