Foodie Friday: La Jefa Mexicana - McPherson, Kansas

La Jefa got its start making waves in McPherson with its bright pink food truck. However, after the closing of a main street staple restaurant, Main Street Deli, La Jefa owner Dora Ochoa decided it was time for a change. Now, while paying homage to their food truck beginnings by including a painting of the truck on a wall inside, this woman owned and family run business is inviting you to come in and take a seat. And from what I have experienced that is definitely something you should do.

My first visit to La Jefa was during a busy Saturday night when they were featuring some live music from a local musician named Sam Unruh and I was joined this time with my friends Cass, Kelsey, and Beau!

.

Here is a look at their food menu!

And a look at their drink menu!

And now on to our food!

.

Cass and Kelsey “took one for the team” and each ordered a margarita.

Of course we had chips and salsa and we also ordered their queso fundido which is a chorizo and cheese dish served with pico and tortillas. (Although we mainly dipped our chips into it. Fair warning though it does have a bit of a spicy kick to it!)

For our main dishes Cass ordered a burrito, Beau had himself a taco, Kelsey ordered the pollo parrillado, and I ordered the ground beef quesadilla!

Then, a week later I found myself at La Jefa once again! My dad had watched my Vaffeldagen YouTube video and saw we had gone to La Jefa afterwards and it made him want to try the place out himself! On this visit he ordered the same quesadilla I had on my last visit and I decided to try their birria tacos!

Cass’ Review: 10/10

Flavor was flavoring! The salsa was different, not your typical type. I loved my burrito I couldn’t get over the flavors in that either!

.

Kelsey’s Review: 10/10

Okay it was for sure 10/10. The margarita was amazing…not too sweet which I like and the chicken had really good flavor and was tender. And I really liked the appetizer thing that was spicy 😂

The inside of this place looks so different from when it was Main Street Deli, but in a great way. It is such a fun atmosphere with colorful decor and an amazing neon sign reading “Feed me tacos and tell me I’m pretty.”

The staff is excellent and the food comes out so fast you will barely have time to dig in to your chips before it arrives, which is a good thing because the food here is so delicious you don’t want to have to wait for it! Definitely a main street must stop!
