Zombie Burger + Drink Lab - Des Moines, Iowa
On my most recent concert road trip I found myself in Des Moines looking for a place to eat lunch at. Zombie themed decor and deep fried mac and cheese was all I needed to hear to know that this was THE place for me. This is Zombie Burger + Drink Lab.

The Menu
The front of the menu was made to look like a newspaper! So stinking cool! (I did ask to take one home for my scrapbook and they let me! EEK!)

The Food
With so many amazing sounding burgers on the menu it was insanely difficult to pick only one. However, my love for crazy food and a chat with the waitress brought me to one of their most famous creations, The Walking Ched burger. (This was actually featured on Food Network’s “United States of Bacon” show!) This is a burger topped with mac and cheese and bacon sandwiched between…..are you ready…I don’t think you are ready….TWO DEEP FRIED MAC AND CHEESE “BUNS” Who knew the zombies were “hording” such amazing sounding food?!

Not only did I manage to survive the zombie apocalypse, but I also walked away with (read in the Dungeon Crawler Carl announcer voice) a NEW ACHIEVEMENT! I am happy to announce that the Walking Ched burger has officially knocked the reigning champ the Norton burger off the top spot as my favorite specialty burger! As a mac and cheese lover this burger was about as close to perfection as one could get. The burger patty was cooked beautifully. The mac and cheese was ooey gooey and absolutely PHENOMENAL. I also was pleasantly surprised at how ooey gooey the mac and cheese that had been deep fried still was. It just ooozed right out….all over my face and fingers. The mess was definitely apocalyptic and after 2 attempts at eating the burger with my hands I threw up the white flag and finished the rest of it with a knife and fork. The fries I got with my burger were fan-freaking-tastic as well and my waitress was absolutely incredible. She was super attentive, nice, and personable and made sure I didn’t miss any of the amazing and unique decor like their zombie greeters! Overall it was a such a fun eating experience and I cannot wait to return!
